Whale freed in 3-hour rescue

Our recent good news blog about the easily sighting of a Southern Right whale with its calf of Cottesloe beach on Australian westcoast has an interesting twist.

This week, a 9metres humpback whale was trapped in a crayfish pot lines at a beach only a 4kilometres north of Cottesloe.

A  rescue team worked for more than 3 hours to free the whale and within 50 metres of the shore the rope were cut and the relieved whale returned to its deep sea habitat 18 kilometres out to see.

Well done to the rescuer!
