WESTERN AUSTRALIAN WHALE MIGRATION PHENOMENON

Yesterday, Flinders Bay (near Augusta in Australia’s South West) saw one of natures’ marvels when whale boat cruise operators found a mother humpback whale lifting her newly–born calf above the water trying to help it breathe.

With the newborn whale calf needing assistance to survive, a pod of adult whales were staying close to protect the mother and calf (which would have been in its first 4 days of life)

Being more south than usual at this time of the year, the whales were experiencing chilly waters in which extremely young calves battle to thrive.
