The Great Southern Rail is about to begin a modern transformation of the Ghan and the Indian Pacific, Australia’s iconic train journeys. Along with the  updated service enhancements already underway, from April 2013, there will be extensive changes to the Gold and Platinum Service travel experience. While the finer details are still being finalised, changes, taking effect as of 1 April 2013, include:

-Gold and Platinum travel will include off train tours, which are also being redesigned to give guests the best of the locations visited.

-Gold and Platinum travel will include all standard beverages, such as soft drinks beers, wines and spirits.

– The dining experience is being redesigned, allowing more freedom and flexibility for guests wishing to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinners.

-Platinum Service will be improved, as well as private transfers provided at the start and end of the journey.

-Red Sleeper and Red Gum lounges will be removed- leaving Red Seats, Gold Sleeper and Platinum Luxury. The Gold Single cabin facility will be added and priced at around 10% less than the Gold twin rates.

-Advanced Purchase Fares will be established for Gold Service, giving guests a 25% discount for bookings made 6 months prior on selected sectors and directions.

These changes promise to improve the quality of service and experience of its guests.
