Kununurra

Kununurra is a pleasant modern town established in 1960 as the centre of the huge Ord River Dam and Irrigation project.
Now the major town of the East Kimberly region Kununurra is a part of the state in which rugged pioneer families took up huge land holdings and established themselves as “Kings In Grass Castles” Well documented in books by Dame Mary Durack.
Kununurra is an ideal base from which to tour and to visit the many attractions of the region: include a visit to the Argyle Diamond Mine, Cruise on Lake Argyle a huge inland sea and fly by fixed wing to The Bungle Bungles. The town is also the departure point for fly-in destinations on the remote Northern coast, places like Hideaway Bay and the Mitchell Falls to name just a few.
There are direct air services to Kununurra from Perth, Darwin, and Broome and the town is included in many of our Kimberly rental car self drive suggestions.
