DAY 01: Hobart
On arrival in Hobart collect the vehicle and then the rest of the day is at leisure to explore Hobart. Hobart is an attractive city built around a beautiful harbour in the shadow of Mount Wellington. Hobart spreads out over the area from the bottom of Mt Wellington to both sides of the Tasman Bridge. Places of interest include the Royal Botanical Gardens, Constitution Dock, Sandy Bay, Salamanca Place and Battery Point.
DAY 02: Hobart to Strahan (289 km)
Leave Hobart and travel north via New Norfolk on the Lyall Highway – a spectacular road across the heart of Tasmania to the village of Strahan. This is following the Great Circle Route. The scenery on this drive is quite spectacular passing through the World Heritage Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Stop in Queenstown, surrounded by stark mountains, giving the town an eerie look. Strahan is the only town on Tasmania’s rugged West Coast and is situated on Macquarie Harbour.
DAY 03: Strahan to Cradle Mountain National Park (159 km)
This morning you can take an optional cruise along the Gordon River. Cruises depart at 9am and return at 2pm. Depart Strahan and travel north to the small town of Zeehan en route to Cradle Mountain. From Zeehan continue on to Rosebery. Leaving the town of Rosebery travel through Tullah and then to the Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park.
DAY 04: Cradle Mountain National Park
Day at leisure to explore Cradle Mountain situated in St Clair National Park with its forests and abundance of wildlife. Cradle Mountain covers some of Tasmania’s highest country. Take a whole day to relax, enjoy and explore the Cradle Mountain area. There are extensive walking tracks, glorious forests, log fires, pure mountain air, fishing and excellent food.
DAY 05: Cradle Mountain to Launceston (142 km)
Leave Cradle Mountain and travel to Launceston. Take the scenic route through the small town of Sheffield which sits in the foothills of Mount Roland, in one of the most scenically attractive areas on the island. From Sheffield continue on to Railton. On the way to Deloraine you can also take short detours to visit some local gourmet delights such as a cheese producer and raspberry farm. From Deloraine continue onto Launceston, the ‘Garden City’ and the second largest city in Tasmania.
DAY 06: Launceston
This morning return your vehicle prior to the time it was collected on Day 1 to avoid additional charges.
