DAY 01: Hobart

On arrival in Hobart collect the vehicle and then the rest of the day is at leisure to explore Hobart. Hobart is an attractive city built around a beautiful Harbour and in the shadow of Mount Wellington. Places of interest include, the Royal Botanical Gardens, Constitution Dock, Sandy Bay, Salamanca Place and Battery Point.

 

DAY 02: Hobart to Richmond (26 km)

Travel across the Derwent River this morning and head to Richmond, a historic village with many treasures of Tasmania’s colonial past. The much photographed Richmond Bridge is the oldest surviving freestone bridge in Australia (1823-25). Wander streets lined with sandstone buildings that now serve as showplaces for the best of Tasmania’s fine art and crafts.

 

DAY 03: Richmond to Freycinet National Park (175 km)

Travel the east Coast today via Orford, where the Church of St John has a beautiful 14th Century stained glass window. Nearby walk the coast track from Shelley Beach to Spring Beach or just take in the coastal views. Continue on to Triabunna, a former whaling base, before arriving at Swansea, a great spot for lunch. Don’t miss a stop at the famous berry farm south of Swansea or visit some of the local wineries. Visit the Bark Mill and East Coast Museum before continuing on to the Freycinet Peninsula and Freycinet National Park.

 

DAY 04: Freycinet National Park

Time at leisure today to explore all that the Freycinet National Park and has to offer, including abundant wildlife, spectacular beaches including Wineglass Bay and a variety of walking trails.

 

DAY 05: Freycinet National Park to Launceston (263 km)

Travel north through Coles Bay and Bicheno. You can either take the coast road from Chain of Lagoons to Falmouth, or the inland road via St Marys and Elephant Pass, where you can stop for delicious pancakes. Then continue north to St Helens, perhaps with a detour to the beautiful Binalong Bay. Near Pyengana take a walk at St Columba Falls and buy some local gourmet cheese.

Continue north to Scottsdale on the Tasman Highway and onto Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city, nestled in the hilly country where the Tamar, North Esk and South Esk rivers meet. Only 10 minutes from the city centre is the magnificent Cataract Gorge, here almost vertical cliffs line the banks of the South Esk River as it enters the Tamar.

 

DAY 06: Launceston

Your vehicle needs to be returned today, by the same time as it was picked up on Day 1 to avoid any additional charges.
