Routing: Hobart to Hobart

Duration: 5 Days

Code: H04

From AUD$790.00* per person, based on standard double/twin share accommodation.

Includes: 4 nights’ accommodation, 4 days unlimited km use of a full size 4WD and fully detailed itinerary with local and regional maps.

DAY 01: Hobart to Huon (79 km)
Collect you vehicle and on the way to Huonville, call in to the Huon Valley Apple and Heritage Museum at Grove. For Huon Valley seasonal produce – trout, salmon, oysters, beef, lamb, fruits and vegetables – in a picture postcard rural setting, visit Home Hill Winery Restaurant at Ranelagh, or catch and barbecue your own fish at the Snowy Range Trout Fishery. Drive to Huonville, for a thrilling jet boat ride on the Huon River (own expense) or continue on to Geeveston for a magical treetop experience at the Tahune Forest AirWalk (own expense). Thrill seekers can try the eagle gliding experience above a 70 metre high forest and the Huon River (own expense). You will spend the next two nights in Huon.

DAY 02: Huon and Surrounds
Head into Hartz Mountains National Park for superb views and a range of walks, then visit the Hastings Caves before relaxing in the nearby thermal springs – warm, naturally occurring pure spring water. Continue south on the Huon Highway, past Southport on the edge of the Southwest National Park and the farthest south you can drive in Australia. There are plenty of great walks in the area.

DAY 03: Huon to Bruny Island (78 km)
Head back through Huonville towards the D’Entrecasteux Channel, either via the back roads through orchards, small farms and vineyards, or follow the shoreline. Stop and try the local wines and produce along the way. Continue on to Kettering and take your car by ferry to Bruny Island (own expense).

DAY 04: Bruny Island to Hobart (50 km)

Spend the day exploring Bruny Island with its fascinating history, wildlife and superb scenery. Visit the penguin viewing platform at the isthmus or join a Bruny Island Charters wildlife cruise from Adventure Bay – one of the best wildlife experiences in Tasmania. Afterwards, head down to Bruny Island Lighthouse, overlooking the Southern Ocean. Take the ferry back to Kettering for the return journey to Hobart. From Kingston, take the scenic route along the old Channel Highway, stopping at Taroona for majestic views of the Derwent River estuary from the top of the 1870 Shot Tower.

DAY 05: Hobart

The car is booked until today and should be dropped off at the city or airport by the same time as it was picked up on Day 1 to avoid any additional charges.
