86km south of Perth, Pinjarra and the nearby forest town of Dwellingup are part of a popular self drive day tour circuit which takes in Mandurah with its aquatic playgrounds and the forest regions of the Darling Escarpment. One of the oldest towns in Western Australia, Pinjarra has many well restored historic homes and public buildings.
One of the Peel region’s popular attractions is the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway which has its depot and workshop in Pinjarra. From here, visitors can take a ride back into the past aboard a steam train excursion into the forest covered hills for a picnic at the small timber town of Dwellingup and ride the 90 minute light rail forest excursion to Etmilyn.
Dwellingup is the location of the Forest Heritage Centre, a unique rammed earth building in the shape of three leaves, which contains fascinating displays and unique timber craft products.
