Karratha

The town of Karratha is described as the gateway to the Pilbara with some of the world’s richest mineral deposits and spectacular scenery in the world renowned Karijini National Park with its rock formations and canyons formed more than 2,500 million years ago. Karratha is some 1530 Km. North of Perth along the NorthWest Coastal Highway and has become the best serviced town in the north. The name Karratha comes from aboriginal words meaning ‘good country’. There is a wide range of accommodation and tourist experiences and the largest regional shopping centre in the state to serve the visitor before they turn inland for the Millstream and Karijini national parks. Karratha is well served by Greyhound coachlines and Qantas airlines serve the town with regular flights from Perth, Darwin, Broome and Exmouth.
