Welcome to the Shark Bay World Heritage Property. The Shire of Shark Bay is made up of two peninsulas on the western most point of Australia. It covers an area of 25,000 square kilometres and has a population of 984 people. It includes a main town of Denham, Francois Peron National Park, a mining site operation – Useless Loop, two roadhouses – Overlander Roadhouse and Billabong Roadhouse, and the following stations – Dirk Hartog Island, Faure Island, Hamelin, Nanga, Tamala, Carrarang, Carbla, Coburn, Nerren Nerren, Meadow, Yalardy, Woodleigh and Gilroyd.
The main town Denham is situated on the Peron Penisula and is 130 km west from the (Overlander Roadhouse on the North West Coastal Highway). Denham is above the 26th parallel, 832 km north of Perth, an approximate eight hour drive by road or three hour flight by light aircraft.
