DAY 01: Darwin to Kakadu National Park (247 km)

Driving east out of Darwin turn left on to the Arnhem Highway and head for the Kakadu National Park. Suggest a stop at Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre, and then Adelaide River for an option Jumping Crocodile cruise. The scenery on the way is dramatic and colourful with bird life, wet lands and high escarpments. A visit to the Bowali Visitor Centre Park Headquarters is a must.

DAY 02: Kakadu National Park

You have a full day at leisure to explore Kakadu. This morning take the included 1.5 hour Yellow Waters Cruises from Cooinda. After your cruise call into the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Other sights to see today include a visit to Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr Rock, or an optional scenic flight. Aboriginal rock art in this area is very well preserved and accessible. It’s worth taking a guided tour to have the history of the rock art explained to you.

DAY 03: Kakadu National Park to Katherine (299 km)

Leave Kakadu and head south on the Kakadu Highway towards Pine Creek. At Pine Creek you rejoin the Stuart Highway and travel on south to Katherine. Stop along the way at the beautiful Edith Falls.

DAY 04: Katherine

This morning take the included 2 hour gorge cruise. Katherine Gorge is a system of 13 gorges all joining by rapids and is located 30 kilometres from the town centre; here the river flows between towering walls of colour. The best way to see the Gorge is from the water, there are also scenic flights and plenty of marked walking tracks.

DAY 05: Katherine to Tennant Creek (663 km)

We suggest an early start for the long drive today. Continue south on the Stuart Highway to Tennant Creek. Travel through Daly Waters and Newcastle Waters on this journey. Tennant Creek has an interesting founding story. Legend has it that the town was formed when a beer wagon broke down and the drivers stayed to drink the cargo.

DAY 06: Tennant Creek to Alice Springs (530 km)

Depart Tennant Creek and continue south towards the heart of the Red Centre, Alice Springs. Suggest a stop at the Devils Marbles on the way, 96 kilometres south of Tennant Creek. These are fascinating natural rock formations. Continue on, travelling through the small townships of Barrow Creek, Ti Tree and Aileron before arriving in Alice Springs. Alice Springs is almost 1500 kilometres from the nearest capital city.

Your vehicle will need to be return tomorrow by the same time it was collected on Day 1, to avoid additional charges.
