Kojonup

Kojonup

Kojonup is located on the Albany Highway, two hours’ drive from Perth and 160km from Albany. Historic Kojonup is more than just a gateway to the beautiful southern areas of Western Australia. In the heart of Kojonup is the freshwater spring which first attracted European settlers to the town in 1837. Overlooking the spring are the Old Military Barracks, one of the oldest surviving military buildings in Western Australia.

Kojonup has a long proud history, stretching back centuries to the days when nomadic Aboriginal people were first attracted to the area by the freshwater spring and an abundance of game. Even the name Kojonup has a historic significance, referring to the ‘Kodja’ or stone axe made by Aborigines from the local stone of the area. To discover more about local indigenous heritage and culture, a visit to The Kodja Place is a must.

Kojonup is well equipped with facilities to cater for just about every sporting activity. When you are exhausted from your sporting activities just sit back and bask in the peace and tranquillity. Relax amongst the beautiful countryside, lush with wildflowers and alive with wildlife. Keen gardeners will be inspired with many homes taking part in the Australian Open Garden Scheme with the Kojonup Festival of Wildflowers running in September each year. There are many places to stay in Kojonup ranging from the caravan park to motels, hotels, cottages, bed and breakfasts and holiday units.
