Denham

 

The Main town and administrative centre of the Shark Bay World Heritage region of Western Australia’s mid north, Denham is a small coastal community which has grown up around the Pearling, Wool and Fishing industries, Since the area was declared a world heritage area in 1991 tourism has become important as visitors come to appreciate the world heritage values of this unique region.
The most Westerly town in Australia Denham has a long history of association with Australia’s first European visitors. It was a Dutch sea captain Dirk Hartog who in 1616 made the first recorded landfall by a European on an island, which now bears his name just West of the present town. The world heritage area covers some 12,000 square kilometres and possesses some of the worlds most unique marine and terrestrial wildlife.
Many nature based day tours and cruises depart from Denham each day and the town is serviced by Feature Tours coach, and Skywest air services from Perth.
